Mountain Herbal Apothecary

The Apothecary’s goal is to offer a variety of herbs, spices, herbal and self-care products to the local community.

Mountain Herbal Apothecary grew from a desire to make commonly-used herbs available to the community. These days, we get so much information from the internet, and it’s hard to know whether the information is relevant to us as individuals. Mountain Herbal Apothecary is a brick-and-mortar shop (81 E Riverside Avenue, Portola, CA) that offers bulk herbs used in Western and Ayurvedic herbalism, as well as self-care products, herbal preparations, and herbal tea blends that are often recommended by herbalists and Ayurvedic practitioners. The Apothecary’s proprietor (Leslie Elliott) is an Ayurvedic practitioner with training in Western herbalism, eager to make herbal products available to the local community.

In addition to the retail area, the Apothecary has a space used by Riverside Balanced Wellness for Ayurvedic consultations. Other areas of the shop are used for workshops (for example, making herbal oils, tinctures, salves, and creams; addressing specific health conditions).

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Riverside Balanced Wellness

The mission of Riverside Balanced Wellness is to promote health and balance through natural healing, using principles from Ayurvedic medicine.

Our goal is to support and assist individuals in their pursuit of health and wellbeing. We believe that all individuals have the desire and capacity to heal themselves and find balance in their lives. Using Ayurvedic principles, we offer counsel on diets, life practices, and treatments that promote natural healing in the body and mind.

Ayurveda, the oldest medical system in the world, promotes health through diet (food as medicine), gradual lifestyle modifications, herbal medicine (single herbs as well as complex classical multi-herb formulations taken as teas, capsules, tablets, oils), and practices such as yoga, mindfulness, massage, and cleanses. Ayurveda has its roots in India, but the concepts are universal — a holistic approach to individualized health care and maintenance.

“The utility of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of a healthy individual and heal the disease of the sick.”

— Caraka Samhita Sutrasthana

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

— World Health Organization
